A major point of contention between the two parties over the last few years has been transition therapies and surgeries for young children.
Dems have chosen to die on this hill, but a major media publication seems to have just flipped its narrative, which will be a crushing blow against Democrats.
This really started to gain momentum about halfway through the Biden administration, when the presidential election season began to intensify.
Republicans were putting pressure on Democrats regarding gender therapy and surgeries for children. The GOP wanted to block these treatments for minor children, but the Dems stated that the government should not get involved.
For instance, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) stated, "Let me be crystal clear. Government should not stick its nose into a parent's decision to seek gender-affirming care for their children.”
Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA) added, "Make no mistake. Today's hearing is not about protecting children or parents' rights. It's a cynical and, frankly, dangerous political attack on transgender children and their families."
On January 28, 2025, Donald Trump issued the “PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM CHEMICAL AND SURGICAL MUTILATION” executive order.
In part, the order stated, “Countless children soon regret that they have been mutilated and begin to grasp the horrifying tragedy that they will never be able to conceive children of their own or nurture their children through breastfeeding.
“Moreover, these vulnerable youths’ medical bills may rise throughout their lifetimes, as they are often trapped with lifelong medical complications, a losing war with their own bodies, and, tragically, sterilization.”
For the purposes of the order, the term “child” referred to anyone under the age of 19, and I fully supported the order.
This week, the Washington Post issued a stunning report backing up the administration for its report, saying that it warrants caution on this front.
It stated, "The good news is that the executive order provided some of what is too often missing in the debate over transgender medical care for children. It directed the secretary of health and human services to publish a review of the existing literature on best practices within 90 days, and this review is now out."
The report continued, "Critics have been scathing about what they see as the report’s bias and shortcomings. But it makes a legitimate case for caution that policymakers need to wrestle with."
All conservatives are asking is to allow the children to grow up and become adults before making such a life-changing decision. My experience in this has been to see some liberal parents actually encouraging their children to be gay or transgender, constantly telling them there is nothing wrong with this, even if the children were not showing any signs, as though the parents wanted to be able to “brag” that their child was gay or trans. It’s horrifying to me. These parents are literally allowing a child to make a call about their sexuality before they will allow them to stay home by themselves or even decide what to eat for dinner. It just makes no sense. Let them grow up first… I really don’t think that is too much to ask.
