Christian persecutions in Nigeria have become top of mind lately to the point that it now has Trump’s attention.
Earlier, Trump had announced that Nigeria was a “country of particular concern” over these prosecutions.
That did not work, so now Trump is openly threatening military action against Nigeria if it does not stop these persecutions.
According to a recent report, 70% of all Christians killed worldwide take place in Nigeria.
While this generally is something that is buried in news reports, it has been getting quite a bit of attention as of late, and now Trump has expressed concern.
He stated, "Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria.”
He continued, "Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN’ — But that is the least of it."
Trump continued to post about Nigeria, adding on Friday, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world!”
Singer Nicki Minaj responded, “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other.”
And that was all it took to set the left off against her, blasting her for daring to support something Trump did that she agreed with. One fan responded, “Nicki Minaj really managed to disappoint me over and over again since last year. Sometimes her choices and the way she acts is just insane Supporting Donald Trump is crazy.”
Another added, “Millions of families can’t feed their families today due to this government shutdown & Nicki Minaj using her platform to praise Donald Trump. What a weird a** bxtch!”
Trump stayed focused on Nigeria through the weekend, posting on Saturday, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
He then added, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
Secretary of War Pete Hegset is all-in, responding, “The killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria — and anywhere — must end immediately. The Department of War is preparing for action. Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Trump managed to keep the United States out of conflicts during his first term, but the military has been a bit more aggressive this time around, already engaging in taking on the drug trade. But this would be a strike on foreign soil, which is a whole new ballgame.
