This past weekend, an attack against a former DOGE employee put the crime issues in D.C. back in the national spotlight. Suddenly, Republicans were again talking about the Bowser Act, legislation introduced by two Republicans to federalize DC.
Now, after that attack, Trump is getting on the bandwagon.
The Bowser Act was introduced by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN).
In February 2025, Ogles announced, “The radically progressive regime of D.C. Mayor Bowser has left our nation’s Capital in crime-ridden shambles. Washington is now known for its homicides, rapes, drug overdoses, violence, theft, and homelessness. Bowser and her corrupt Washington City Council are incapable of managing the city.
“As such, it seems appropriate for Congress to reclaim its Constitutional authority and restore the nation’s Capital. The epicenter of not only the United States Federal Government but also the world geopolitics cannot continue to be a cesspool of Democrats’ failed policies.
“That’s why I’ve introduced the Bringing Oversight to Washington and Safety to Every Resident (BOWSER) Act, which would repeal the D.C. Home Rule Act. I am grateful to Senator Lee for his willingness to lead this critical legislation in the Senate.”
As we reported earlier in the week, a former DOGE employee, Edward Coristine, who had a rather unique nickname at DOGE, saw a woman in distress and became her white knight.
Surrounded by several teenagers with nefarious intent, Cortisine stepped in to help her, but wound up taking a beating for his good deed.
Pictures surfaced of him lying on the sidewalk, badly beaten, bloodied, and reportedly suffering a concussion.
He was lucky… police just happened to be patrolling that area when he was being beaten, or who knows how this would have turned out for him.
Senator Mike Lee took no time at all to pounce, posting, "The Constitution already federalizes D.C. We just need Congress to do its job -- and reassert its lawmaking power over our nation’s capital city. My bill, the BOWSER Act, would do that."
President Donald Trump jumped in as well, stating, "Perhaps it should have been done a long time ago, then this incredible young man, and so many others, would not have had to go through the horrors of Violent Crime. If this continues, I am going to exert my powers, and FEDERALIZE this City."
Crime and Democrat mayors seem to go hand in hand. If you look at the list of the highest crime rates in the country, the majority of them have Democrat mayors, and sadly, they are all major cities that see significant tourism (point being, people are getting a horrible impression of this country).
Democrats will push back against the idea of ousting a Democrat mayor to allow the feds to take over the city, but is that really such a bad idea? I mean, how many of our great cities (Philadelphia, New York, Houston, San Antonio, San Francisco, Boston, to name just a handful) are we going to allow to be destroyed by Democrats?
