Texas AG accuses Joe Biden of aiding drug cartels

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton accused the Biden administration of assisting cartels in smuggling people across the southern border.

Paxton made these remarks in response to the Department of Justice's (DOJ) threat to sue Texas over a new law allowing state authorities to arrest migrants entering the U.S. illegally and granting local judges more power to order their deportation.

The interview

During an appearance on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures," Paxton expressed concern over the escalating number of migrants crossing the southern border during the Biden administration.

He argued that instead of solving the problem, the government was aiding and abetting cartels, leading Texas to take action to protect its citizens.

The DOJ had sent a letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, threatening legal action and accusing the state of interfering with federal immigration law enforcement.

In response, Abbott's office indicated its readiness to take the legal fight to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The argument

Paxton contended that the U.S. immigration courts couldn't effectively manage the influx of asylum seekers, leading to significant backlogs and allowing individuals to "disappear" before their court dates.

He emphasized the multi-billion dollar cost of dealing with the border crisis and identified human and drug trafficking as the most significant problems arising from the situation.

The Texas attorney general highlighted the impact of the border crisis, noting the thousands of deaths from fentanyl overdoses, which he attributed to cartels exploiting an easy entry into Texas and the country.

Paxton argued that the crisis wasn't confined to Texas or border states but had become a broader American problem, attributing it to the policies of the Biden administration.

The razor wire issue

He also criticized the federal government's attempt to remove razor wire installed by Texas officials along the Rio Grande River to prevent illegal entries.

Paxton emphasized that Texas aimed to protect its citizens from the crime and cost of illegal immigration.

The attorney general concluded by accusing the Biden administration of aiding and abetting cartels and encouraging their activities, resulting in significant financial gains and an influx of people into the country.

The ongoing border crisis and lack of response by Democrats show it's time for Texas to take matters into its own hands, with Paxton leading the way to fight back over the lax level of border enforcement under Biden.
