Lisa Bonet divorces Jason Momoa two years after initially separating

A divorce petition was submitted by Lisa Bonet to Jason Momoa, two years after the couple had begun their separation.

Bonet submitted a petition on Monday, requesting that her marriage to the "Aquaman" star be terminated, as Fox News reported.

According to the records that Fox News Digital was able to get, the basis for the petition is described as being irreconcilable differences.

The documents indicate that the couple has reached a decision regarding the distribution of their assets, and neither of them will get any form of financial assistance.

Additionally, according to the records, Bonet and Momoa will be granted shared custody of their two children, both of whom are 16 years old: daughter Lola and son Nakoa-Wolf.

It was in 2005 when Jason and Lisa first met and their romance began, but they did not get married until 2017. The date of the couple's separation is listed in the legal paperwork as October 2020, which is more than a year before the couple announced to the world that they were going their separate ways.

Based on the information provided by The Associated Press, the divorce will be granted by a judge in Los Angeles after a waiting period of six months.

The union between Momoa and Bonet was his first marriage, but that was not the case for Bonet who was previously joined in marriage to the musician Lenny Kravitz. Zora Kravitz, the couple's daughter, recently became engaged to Channing Tatum, an actor. The couple shares child together.

Bonet and Momoa issued a joint statement on Instagram when they announced their decision to end their relationship in January of 2022.

"We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring," the statement at the time began.

"And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage," they continued.

The couple noted in their statement that they had previously decided to make their separation public. According to the pair, their decision to speak up now was "not because we think it's newsworthy but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty."

The statement concluded, "The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become. Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life our children. Teaching our children what's possible. Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail."
