In a sharp rebuttal, the Pentagon has dismissed a recent NBC News report suggesting a military recruitment initiative tied to the legacy of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as Fox News reports.
The Pentagon labeled the NBC story as completely false, accusing the outlet of relying on anonymous sources with no credible insight into military plans.
Earlier this month, the nation mourned the loss of Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was tragically assassinated in Utah.
Kirk’s casket was transported to Arizona aboard Air Force Two, marking a significant gesture of respect for his contributions.
High-ranking officials, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, are set to attend his memorial service.
The event underscores the impact Kirk had on conservative circles and beyond during his lifetime.
Amidst this backdrop, NBC News published a controversial piece alleging that the Pentagon was exploring a recruitment drive inspired by Kirk’s legacy.
The report, penned by journalist Courtney Kube, referenced two unnamed officials and suggested that Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Anthony Tata was spearheading discussions.
NBC further claimed the campaign would be framed as a national summons to service, with potential slogans like one implying Kirk inspired a new wave of fighters and hints that Turning Point USA chapters could serve as enlistment hubs.
The NBC story also noted that some officials reportedly cautioned against the initiative, warning it might be perceived as taking advantage of Kirk’s tragic death.
However, the Pentagon swiftly moved to counter these assertions, with press secretary Kingsley Wilson addressing the issue directly to Fox News Digital.
Wilson firmly stated that the report held no truth, criticizing NBC for pushing unfounded narratives based on sources lacking insight into actual military strategies.
Adding to the denial, Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell issued a statement originally provided to NBC, accusing media outlets of fabricating stories to tarnish the current administration’s reputation.
Parnell emphasized the success of recruitment under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, highlighting a surge in individuals eager to serve the country.
