Most of us would probably agree that it would take a monumental mistake by this administration for JD Vance not to be the nominee in the 2028 presidential election.
Vance has been playing coy about running, but he just cracked the door a bit to give us an idea of his plans.
What I was more interested in, however, was his warning about the 2026 midterm elections.
Vance is an exceptional speaker, and he knows how to play the political game, which is how he has managed to sidestep the idea of running for president in 2028.
Even though it is virtually a given that he will be the nominee, he is playing it like there will be no free ride for him.
During an interview this weekend, he finally cracked just a bit, stating, "If we do a good job in 2025 and 2026, then we can talk about the politics in 2027. I really think the American people are so fed up with folks who are already running for the next job, seven months into the current one."
Vance continued, "There are a lot of great people. If I do end up running, it's not going to be given to me -- either on the Republican side or on the national side. I'm just going to keep on working hard.… [This] may be the most important job I ever had, outside of being a father to those three beautiful kids. So I'm going to try to do my best job, and I think if I do that, the politics will figure itself out."
It has been a long time since I have seen anyone dominate polling like this, as Vance has a death grip on the nomination if he wants it.
His lead continues to grow, with the latest national poll giving Vance a shocking 41-point lead.
As far as averages go, Vance holds a 36.7-point lead, and Governor DeSantis continues to sit at single digits, as I am afraid his opportunity went up in smoke when he lost to Trump in the 2024 primary.
The only way I see DeSantis making a comeback is if the GOP loses the election in 2028, which will open the door to a non-MAGA candidate coming back into play.
During the 2016 election cycle, Donald Trump tapped into anger among everyday Americans, as well as their frustrations over being ignored by today’s politicians.
Vance now believes Democrats are trying to replicate that formula for the 2026 midterm election. He warned, "You’ve got the far-left fanatics… they’re very angry right now, and they’re very motivated.”
The VP later added, "If you want to give the government over to people who are defending murderers on the streets of D.C., then don't vote. But if you actually want to continue to secure the southern border and combat this inflation problem, you've got to get out there and vote and give us that ability to continue accomplishing great things for the American people.”
I think Vance is right, and I have been warning everyone of an undeniable history of midterm elections after a party change. The only president in recent history who defied this trend was Bush, but that was because of 9/11. Just about every other race has been a bloodbath, something that Speaker Johnson (R-LA) and Trump are going to try to defy.
