US Navy recon plane harassed by Chinese fighter jet over South China Sea

If you have any doubt about how serious tensions are between China and President Joe Biden's United States, one only needs to look at what transpired between the two countries over the South China Sea this week.

As The Daily Wire noted, a Chinese fighter jet harassed a U.S. Navy P-8A reconnaissance plane over the geopolitically sensitive area.

The outlet noted that the interaction between the two aircraft happened "at 21,500 feet about 30 miles from the contested Paracel Islands where China has military bases.

Notably, most of the incident was caught on camera, as a CNN crew was aboard the U.S. Navy recon aircraft.

"Rare images of a Chinese fighter jet closely shadowing a US Navy reconnaissance plane over the South China Sea. Aboard the US plane, CNN witnesses the cat & mouse game played by Chinese & US militaries in one of the world's most hotly-contested regions," CNN's Ivan Watson tweeted.

The Chinese aircraft issued a warning message to the U.S. military plane.

“American aircraft. Chinese airspace is 12 nautical miles,” a Chinese woman from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) said over the radio. “Not approaching any more or you bear all responsibility.”

The Chinese aircraft flew just a few hundred feet from the American recon plane, highlighting just how thick tensions are at the moment.

NBC reporters were also aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft.

"This was my view of a Chinese J11 fighter jet about 500ft off the wing of a U.S. Navy surveillance plane…that was intercepted today over the South China Sea after stern radio warnings from #China’s PLA," NBC's Asia correspondent Janis Mackey Frayer tweeted.

Many social media users said that it wasn't a surprise that China would harass a U.S. military plane without fear, given that President Biden has been incredible soft on China since being elected, not to mention his disastrous foreign policy decisions that make America look weak at the moment.

Only time will tell if relations improve, but I would advise anyone to bet on that.
