Tucker Carlson apologizes to Liz Cheney for comments in wake of father's death

I have always followed the adage that I would not kick someone after they have passed away, but nor would I be dishonest.

Recently, former Vice President Dick Cheney, the father of former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), died.

After Mr. Cheney's death, Tucker Carlson went a bit over the top, so he just apologized to Liz Cheney for his comments.

Cheney dies

I have no love lost for Dick Cheney, as I firmly believe he fabricated information to start a war to help keep George W. Bush in office.

Cheney, I believe, was the real shot-caller of that administration and would do just about anything to stay in power.

He was also an anti-Trumper, following the lead of his daughter, acting as though she was going to save the country from the bad orange man.

Cheney died in early November at the age of 84, and Carlson took no time at all to throw daggers at his daughter.

Carlson goes too far

I am not sure what has happened to Tucker Carlson lately, but he now sounds like he has dipped off the deep end.

To that point, regardless of how you feel about someone, the aftermath of their father's death is not the time to take a cheap shot at them.

Carlson, after Cheney’s death, mused, "He raised a really repulsive daughter.”

He continued, "Just on the downside, I’ve got a bunch of daughters that are just fine people, and I’m more proud of them than of anything in my life. And, if I had a daughter, you know, like Liz Cheney, I don’t believe in suicide, but I would consider it."

The apology

Carlson realized he went too far, and later apologized for what he said, stating, “And I said that her father would be ashamed of her, and if I had a daughter like that, I’d probably kill myself, which is an awful thing to say. It’s kind of hard to believe I said that."

He went on, “But in my mind, I was thinking of all the people I dislike, Liz Cheney would probably be at the top of the list … Because we disagree so profoundly, I told myself, clearly, I must have told myself that you can say anything you want about Liz Cheney. She’s not really human. You can say anything you want, including something really awful and nasty, like if I was her dad, I would kill myself. Who thinks like that? Who talks like that? Well, I did.”

Carlson then stated, “And so I just want to say I’m sorry to Liz Cheney, and I mean that too. I mean that. I shouldn’t have said that.”

I have never had a kind word to say about anyone with the last name of Cheney, but letting loose with something like that, in such a moment, well, it never would have crossed my mind. It is just another example of how toxic this political environment has become.
