Trump's Day One Plans: Deportations, Tariffs, And Reversing Climate Policies

As President-elect, Donald Trump has vowed to initiate sweeping policy changes on his first day in office, targeting immigration, trade, and environmental regulations.

MSNBC reported that Trump's extensive agenda includes deportations, a crackdown on transgender rights, and the revocation of climate policies.

Trump’s presidency is poised to begin with an aggressive schedule. He plans to fulfill several significant campaign promises immediately, causing ripples across various sectors.

Among the top actions, Trump intends to initiate mass deportations and end birthright citizenship. These measures, however, are expected to face substantial financial, logistical, and legal challenges.

Special Counsel Jack Smith, who has been under threat of dismissal by Trump, is anticipated to resign before the inauguration. This adds another layer of complexity to Trump's first day in office.

The proposed deportation program could severely impact the U.S. economy. Experts predict it will be a huge financial and logistical undertaking.

Legal Hurdles In Changing Birthright Citizenship

Birthright citizenship, currently guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, will likely encounter strong legal opposition if Trump attempts to alter it through executive action. This move could lead to a significant legal showdown.

Simultaneously, Trump aims to dismantle President Joe Biden's climate policies on his first day. He plans to boost oil and gas drilling, intending to sign executive orders to reverse the current administration’s environmental regulations.

However, revoking climate regulations involves a lengthy process with the Environmental Protection Agency, which will face fierce resistance from environmental groups.

Trump also targets educational and LGBTQ rights, proposing to slash federal funding for schools that teach critical race theory and what he refers to as "transgender insanity." He also intends to prohibit transgender women from competing in women's sports.

This stance has already prompted an uptick in crisis calls among LGBTQ communities since Trump's election victory in November.

Moreover, Trump plans to pardon individuals involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, describing the event as "a day of love" and the rioters as "patriots" who were "horribly and unfairly treated."

Trade Policies and Tariffs on the Horizon

In trade, Trump proposes substantial tariffs on imports, especially from Canada, Mexico, and China. He has advocated for a 25% tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico, and an even steeper 60% tariff on Chinese imports.

Additionally, Trump has suggested an extra 10% tariff on goods related to drug issues. He argues that these tariffs will remain until issues of drug trafficking and illegal immigration are resolved.

Such tariffs could lead to increased prices for U.S. consumers, as businesses might pass these costs onto them, according to economic experts.

Despite his extensive plans, Trump has stated that he does not intend to govern as a dictator, asserting that these actions are about fulfilling campaign promises swiftly.

"There would be no price tag for his mass deportation plans," Trump told NBC News, emphasizing his commitment to implement these changes immediately upon taking office.

On ending birthright citizenship, Trump mentioned he might consider amending the Constitution to remove this provision. His comments to various media outlets highlight his intention to address each of these issues starting from the very first hour of his presidency.
