Musk’s days are numbered heading DOGE, as his time is running out and he clearly needs to get back to his business ventures.
While Democrats and some Republicans are celebrating his departure, Trump just threw a wrench into their plans.
In early April, there were several stories that Musk was not playing nice with Trump’s cabinet members, as reports of several fights surfaced.
Musk had apparently gotten into it with Secretary Rubio. Then it was reported that Musk got into some arguments later in the month with some of Trump’s economic advisers over the tariff war.
Trump had Musk to a cabinet meeting, where he openly lauded Musk, stating, “Elon, I want to thank you — I know you’ve been through a lot.”
Trump was referring to the new trend of fire bombings at Tesla dealerships, which were impacting Tesla sales. Trump had then stated that he would keep Elon around for as long as he wanted to stay. But Musk’s time was limited due to the fact he is a special employee allowed to work only 130 days in a 365-day cycle.
When Musk initially took over DOGE, he was given an office at the White House in close proximity to Trump’s office, but that reportedly changed at the end of April.
It was reported that Musk was no longer working at his office, at least not regularly.
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles confirmed that Musk was working remotely.
She stated, "Instead of meeting with him in person, I’m talking to him on the phone, but it’s the same net effect. He hasn’t been here physically, but it really doesn’t matter much.”
On Wednesday, Musk appeared at Trump’s cabinet meeting, likely his last at the White House, but Trump gave him a sendoff that likely stirred the pot even more.
He stated, "You have been treated unfairly. But, the vast majority of people in this country really respect and appreciate you. And this whole room can say that very strongly. It's really been a tremendous help. You opened up a lot of eyes as to what could be done. And we just want to thank you very much."
Then Trump dropped the bomb, stating, "You're invited to stay as long as you want. At some point, I guess he wants to get back home to his cars and his family."
My guess is that even after Musk is gone from DOGE, he will have a Bat Phone to the Oval Office to counsel Trump as needed. It will not be an official role, but there is no way Trump is going to give that Ace up his sleeve away. Musk will likely become to the GOP what George Soros is to the Democrat Party, and that is not good for Democrats.
