Trump says even with Democrat resistance, Chicago crime rate dropping

The battle between Donald Trump and Chicago has been going on for years, and it got much worse after Trump was elected to office again.

Trump has threatened to federalize the city as well as send in the National Guard.

Chicago has resisted every step of the way, but according to Trump, it did not matter because the crime rate is still going down with the help of federal authorities.

Federal Intervention

In September, Trump announced that he was going to Chicago to address the crime situation there.

He stated, “We’re going in. I didn’t say when.”

He added, “I have an obligation. This isn’t a political thing.”

And so began the standoff between Trump and the Democrats in Illinois.

Sending in the Troops

In October, Trump authorized 300 National Guard troops to be sent to Chicago.

This was Trump’s answer to ICE agents being boxed in, having their vehicles rammed by protesters, and an armed woman trying to attack agents.

At the same time this was happening, Trump said he was going to send the California National Guard into Oregon over dangerous rioting.

Trump said if he had to, he would invoke the Insurrection Act, stating, "We have an insurrection act for a reason. If I had to enact it I would do that. If people were being killed and courts were holding us up or governors or mayors were holding us up, sure I would do that."

Crime Dropping

Trump is not getting much cooperation from Democrats in Illinois, but there has apparently been a marked increase in federal agents in the area, which Trump claims is dropping the crime rate.

Trump claimed shootings are down by 35%, and carjackings are down by nearly 50%. Trump further claimed that robberies were down by more than 40% in the city.

He stated, “This has been achieved despite the extraordinary resistance from Chicago and Illinois Radical Democrat leadership.”

The governor of Illinois and mayor of Chicago have yet to respond to Trump’s claims, but I would imagine that will be coming soon enough. This one is going to be fun.
