Trump rules out Pence as potential 2024 running mate

Former President Donald Trump ruled out former Vice President Mike Pence as a potential 2024 running mate.

Trump believes Pence turned against him in the days following the 2020 presidential election.

"It would be totally inappropriate," Trump told the authors of The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021, according to a report by the Guardian.

"Mike committed political suicide" with his decision on Jan. 6, Trump added.

The fallout from the days following Trump's loss continues to impact the relationship between the two conservative leaders. Trump and Pence both may run separately for president in 2024, with each of them building a network behind the scenes for a potential White House bid.

The controversy may continue to divide voters in the future as well. Some will side with Trump's defiant stance, while others will prefer Pence's more balanced approach in responding to the politics of the Biden administration after two years of turmoil in the White House.
