On "MediaBuzz," former President Trump talked about "common sense" and asserted that "you have to have the three exceptions" when it comes to abortion.
Former President Trump offered his opinion on the abortion controversy, which has been a touchy political issue for Republicans, as Fox News reported.
According to reports, Trump has talked about outlawing abortions beyond 16 weeks of pregnancy, with the exceptions of rape, incest, and the mother's life, seeming to have made his decision about how he wants to treat the touchy issue.
"Pretty soon, I'm going to be making a decision. And I would like to see if we could do that at all. I would like to see if we could make both sides happy,"
Trump said on "MediaBuzz" on Sunday. Throughout his presidency, Trump has been outspokenly pro-life, although he faced criticism for telling NBC News' Kristen Welker on "Meet the Press."
Although he has not formally declared his support for abortion, his position on the matter demonstrates how Republicans are evolving in their thinking and tactics.
"If the Republicans spoke about it correctly, it never hurt me from the standpoint of elections. It hurt a lot of Republicans," Trump told host Howard Kurtz.
"But I tell people, No. 1, you have to go with your heart. You have to go with your heart. But beyond that, you also have to get elected, and if you don't have the three exceptions, I think it's very, very hard to get elected."
Access to abortion has once again been a top priority for the Democratic Party since Roe v. Wade was overturned.
This is partially because President Biden and Vice President Harris have made abortion a major part of their 2024 platform.
Harris toured a Minnesota Planned Parenthood clinic on Thursday, making history as the first vice president in office to visit an abortion facility.
She claimed that one of the goals of her visit to the clinic was to raise awareness of the issue of women traveling to Minnesota for abortions from other states.
In addition, President Biden emphasized abortion and reproductive rights in his State of the Union speech for 2024.
President Trump chastised Democrats for their "radical" approach and pushed Republicans to feel more at ease discussing the matter in the
"The Democrats are the radicals on this issue because it's OK to have an abortion in seven, eight, nine months and even after birth," Trump said.
