Donald Trump is furious after ICE agents came under attack just outside of Chicago this weekend.
After local authorities refused to help when agents were surrounded by hostile actors, he gave Pritzker the option to activate the Guard, or Trump would step in.
Well, Pritzker said he would not do it, and now Trump appears ready to send in troops from Texas.
Reports broke on Saturday that a small group of ICE agents came under attack just outside of Chicago during routine operations.
The agents were surrounded by a group of hostile protesters, who reportedly even rammed the vehicles.
Agents were forced to fire defensively, and thankfully, no agents were hurt.
The most upsetting thing about this is another report that the Chief of Patrol ordered all officers to stand down and not report to the scene to help these agents.
Trump, according to Governor Pritzker, called the governor and gave him an ultimatum to fix the problem or Trump would take care of it himself.
He announced, “This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will.
“It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.”
I have been very open about my disdain for this idea because I know how the narrative will be pitched by the Democrats and the media, and we are already seeing that take place.
This situation just got a lot more complicated with Texas Governor Greg Abbott interjecting himself into the mix.
Abbott has offered to send 400 troops to Illinois to protect federal agents, to which Pritzker responded, “It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will not involve sending in another state’s military troops. I call on [Texas] Governor [Greg] Abbott to immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate.”
I know most of you are like me and believe our federal agents need to be protected, but I am just not a fan of using outside military forces to do this. I would love for Pritzker to back down and allow his Guard to protect these agents, but he is holding firm.
If I were Trump or advising him, I would suggest using a federal task force rather than the military. Trump, however, loves the show of strength the military provides, but I think it is something that will be exploited by Democrats. Quite frankly, I am stunned more Republicans are not pushing back on this.
