Ever since Donald Trump won his first presidency, there have been calls for his heir apparent, with Donald Trump Jr. seemingly being the perfect candidate.
He is politically active, has a big profile, and MAGA loves him, but Jr. does not seem interested, at least not yet.
Trump Jr. has always been a controversial figure, as he is someone who constantly launches attacks and regularly buys into conspiracy theories, so he is an easy target for the left.
However, he can say things his father cannot, and I firmly believe he is being used in that matter.
To that point, MAGA has fallen in love with him, so it was only natural for the media to inquire if he plans on running in the future to take up where his father leaves off.
Earlier this year, Jr. was asked a question about just that, but he pushed back, stating, “Oh, God. No, no, no, don’t get me into trouble. We have to worry about this. Now, we have to govern. We have to win, we have to fight. We have to get it done, we have to deliver on our promises.”
The 2028 cycle will be here before you know, and depending upon how the GOP does during these first two years, it will likely dictate how the race on the right goes as well as who actually runs for office.
If we were to do the election today, however, JD Vance is the clear choice for Republicans.
In a recent poll by J.L. Partners, Vance dominated the field, earning 46% of support, with Governor Ron DeSantis a distant second at 8%, and a host of others at 7% or less.
Trump, at least for now, is staying out of this game, having stated that he would not endorse Vance just yet, then mentioned the job that Secretary Rubio has been doing, so he clearly wants to give the appearance he is neutral, at least for now.
Once again, Jr. faced questions about running in 2028, and he more or less shut them down. When asked again about his political future, Trump Jr. stated that he has no interest in running “anytime soon,” which the media took to mean that he could be looking to do something, perhaps after the 2028 election.
He then added, "I don't know. Maybe one day … that calling is there."
There have only been two father-son teams in the history of our country.
The first was John Adams and John Quincy Adams, the second being George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush.
It goes without saying that Jr.'s political future is just as tied to the success of this administration as JD Vance's future.
