With the 2025 elections now in the rearview mirror, we move right into the midterm election cycle.
One race that everyone will be watching for a variety of reasons is the Ohio race, with Vivek Ramaswamy the presumed favorite in the GOP.
Trump just endorsed his former DOGE official, as the race is far tighter than anyone had expected.
When Trump added Ramaswamy to DOGE, I thought it was a mistake.
To me, Ramaswamy is a snake oil salesman, but he fed Trump what he wanted to hear, and Trump welcomed him and stuck him with Elon Musk to run DOGE.
There were complaints almost immediately, with there being a lot of alleged tension between Musk and Ramaswamy.
He did not last long, almost immediately stating that he would leave the race and run for governor of Ohio. When he was asked why he left, he stated, “We had different—and complementary—approaches,” Whereas Musk examined the issue through a technological mindset, “I focused more on a constitutional law, legislative-based approach.”
As far as the GOP nomination goes, nobody is close to Ramaswamy, so for our purposes, we are going to hand him the nod and concentrate on his possible foes.
The two major contenders on the other side of the aisle are Tim Ryan and Amy Acton, with Acton having a nearly double-digit lead over Ryan, so let’s focus on her.
In April, Ramaswamy held a five-point lead over her, then extended that to 10 points during the summer. Since then, however, this race has tightened up to within just a few points.
In the October 17 Bowling Green University Poll, Ramaswamy only held a three-point lead. However, the Ohio Federation of Teachers poll now gives Acton the lead, and Ramaswamy is taking a page out of Trump’s book and saying that the poll is fake news.
With things getting a bit close, Ramaswamy just fired his main bullet, with Trump going public on his endorsement.
Trump posted his endorsement to Truth Social, stating, “Vivek Ramaswamy will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Trump then added, “I know Vivek well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL. He is Young, Strong, and Smart! Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country.”
We shall see if this makes any difference in future polls or not, but I would have saved this for later. Now, I don’t trust Ramaswamy, and I will not endorse him for this or any role with the GOP, ever. So, you guys will have to make your decision on this one without my help. I just don’t trust the man. But Trump’s endorsement is clearly a big deal in this race, and it may have changed some minds who are not quite as stubborn as me.
