Trump flurry of pardons catching everyone off guard

When Donald Trump first came back into office, he issued a stack of pardons like nothing we have ever seen before, as presidents usually wait until they are on the way out the door before issuing controversial pardons.

Well, Trump just issued another stack of them, and there could be more coming soon.

Todd and Julie Chrisley

The Chrisleys were the stars of the reality TV show, “Chrisley Knows Best.”

They have become known as the Trumps of Georgia, so you can see why Trump loves them and wanted to let them off the hook.

The couple was convicted during the Biden administration of bank fraud and tax evasion, and from the evidence I saw, it was an open-and-shut case, but they were prosecuted when Biden was in office, and Trump seems intent on pardoning everyone put away during that administration.

To that point, Trump issued them both pardons, and they were freed from prison this week and sent home.

Trump may pardon kidnappers

After the Chrisley pardon was announced, Trump was asked about the Whitmer kidnapping case, which was fairly controversial due to the deep involvement of the FBI.

There were originally 14 people charged regarding the plot to kidnap the Democrat governor, but most were acquitted, largely due to the evidence that showed the FBI sources were encouraging the plot.

Two men, however, were convicted, and Trump was asked if he plans on pardoning them as well, and he responded, “I will take a look at it. It’s been brought to my attention."

“I did watch the trial. It looked to me like somewhat of a railroad job, I’ll be honest with you. It looked to me like some people said some stupid things.”

More pardons

Trump issued a few more pardons this week, with a few of them turning heads, including the pardon of Michael Grimm, a former New York politician, who had been convicted for underreporting income from his Manhattan restaurant.

Trump also pardoned a former Republican Governor of Connecticut, John Rowland, who had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit tax, mail and honest services fraud. He was also convicted on election fraud charges, but now he gets a clean slate as well.

As bad as these pardons are, the one that really got everyone’s attention was the commutation of notorious gang leader, Larry Hoover, who co-founded the Gangster Disciples. He was in jail for life for having ordered the murder of William Young, who had stolen drugs from the gang. Hoover received six additional life sentences while in jail because it was proven that he had continued to run the gang from prison.

These are the people Trump, who claims he is a law-and-order president, just pardoned. Sorry, but I cannot and will not support the pardons of fraudsters and murderers. I just don’t understand what he expects to accomplish by continuing to set these people free and not hold them accountable. He is making a mockery of our justice system, in my opinion.
