Trump finally clarifies he will not run for president again

Donald Trump has finally put the idea that he would be running for a third term to bed.

After months of taunting the left, Trump finally stated that he will be an “8-year president.”

Getting It Going

In recent days, Donald Trump has acted as though he had nothing to do with the narrative that he would run for a third term, but that is simply not true.

Trump has been toying with this idea since his first administration, and as recently as March, Trump stated that he was “not joking” about running for a third term.

During a phone interview with NBC, Trump stated, “A lot of people want me to do it. But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

When asked for clarification on this being a joke or not, Trump stated, “I’m not joking. But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”

Trump Shuts Down Rumors

As my regular readers know, I was furious with the president for making this statement, as I take our Constitution very seriously, and this is not something I think someone in Trump’s position should be joking about.

Finally, this weekend, Trump decided to come clean and say that he will not seek a third term in any possible way.

Trump stated, "It’s something that, to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do. I don’t know if that’s constitutional. But this is not something I’m looking to do."

The one thing I did not like about Trump’s comments during the interview is that he still tried to make it sound like someone else was doing this, not him. That is simply not true and very easy to prove, so I don’t understand why he would go down this path. But at least the issue is now put to bed.

Replacements

With Trump now out of the picture for a third term, the question then becomes who would get his blessing to take over the MAGA crown.

Trump, when asked about his heir apparent, stated, “It’s far too early to say that. But you know, I do have a vice president … and JD’s doing a fantastic job.”

He then dropped a bit of a bombshell, at least for me, stating, “I don’t want to get involved in that. I think he’s a fantastic, brilliant guy. Marco is great. There’s a lot of them that are great. We have a lot of good people in this party.”

First, Trump saying he doesn’t want to get involved in that is utterly ridiculous because we all know that he will be the one who decides who will be take the lead for MAGA moving forward. Second, I am stunned that he pointed a finger toward Marco Rubio, which tells me there may have been some deal cut for Rubio to take the Secretary of State position. I thought Vance was the slam dunk for Trump, but that does not appear to be the case.
