America first… that is the rallying cry of Donald Trump and MAGA, but Trump just violated his own rule.
Trump recently announced that he would be allowing 600,000 Chinese students to enter this country to attend school.
This means classroom space and jobs that could be occupied by American students and workers are no longer on the table, and conservatives are not happy.
For the most part, the Daily Caller has been a pro-Trump publication, but not this time.
DC published an opinion piece headlined, “Trump Administration Having A Hard Time Explaining How Its Stupid, Stupid Plan Is Good For Americans.”
The problem is that we are trying to encourage American students to study STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), which is what the overwhelming majority of Chinese students study when they come to this country.
That alone means that it defies the narrative that American students and workers would not be displaced by these students. The piece just openly blasts Trump, something I did not expect to see.
Trump had made several moves during his seven months in office that have upset MAGA, with the Epstein files being arguably the worst… at least until now.
MAGA is having a hard time accepting the notion that 600,000 Chinese students studying at our elite schools is a good thing for this country and the American people.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who backs everything Trump does, slammed on the brakes this time, stating, “I just don’t understand it for the life of me. Those are 600,000 spots that American kids won’t get.”
Most believe this is Trump greasing the way for a proposed meeting in China between Trump and President Xi.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is about as MAGA as it gets, but she has shown a few chinks in her support for Trump as well lately.
Greene is not happy, stating, "We should not let in 600,000 CHINESE students to attend American colleges and universities that may be loyal to the CCP.”
Trump claimed that without these students, some of our top schools would fail, to which Greene responded, "If refusing to allow these Chinese students to attend our schools causes 15% of them to fail then these schools should fail anyways because they are being propped up by the CCP.”
There are some cracks in the foundation here, and that is not a good sign as we ramp up for what is going to be a brutal midterm election. What seems clear to me above all else is that the spell that Trump had over these people is wearing off, and they are no longer just taking everything he says at his word, that is, for the good of the country or the conservative cause. Trump is now being questioned, and it is the first time since he walked down that escalator that I can recall it happening.
