Former Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell has been in hot water with the media and Democrats since Trump’s first term in office.
Now he has found himself in some real trouble after taking an unauthorized trip.
Before we get into the current allegations against Grenell, we have to look at his history.
For instance, it was recently reported that Grenell was under investigation for some disclosures he allegedly made.
On that investigation, Bloomberg had reported, “The probe, conducted jointly with the Bureau of Diplomatic Security's Office of Special Investigations, was opened on March 10, 2020. Grenell had pasted a ‘sensitive but unclassified’ State Department cable—commonly referred to by government officials as SBU—into an email that he sent to a person who worked at a Washington think tank and was also a ‘media contributor.’ Above the classification line, Grenell wrote, ‘Thoughts?’”
Investigators later stated that he did not have the authority to share this 3information, so that was strike one.
Even with the baggage, Trump brought Grenell back for his second administration, appointing him as his envoy for special missions.
Trump posted to Truth Social, “Ric will work in some of the hottest spots around the World, including Venezuela and North Korea.”
For his part, Grenell has always backed Trump’s full agenda, and he continues to do so.
While some are pushing back on Trump’s America First agenda, saying it should not mean American alone, Grenell holds firm, saying Trump’s agenda will make this country stronger, not weaker.
A report broke this week that Grenell may have made an unauthorized trip to return Air Force veteran Joe St. Clair back to the United States.
According to the report, administration officials were “blindsided” by Grenell by the trip, for which he used a plane that is registered to Bill Stone, the chairman and CEO of Windsor, Conn.-based SS&C Technologies.
St. Clair was being held prisoner by Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, and while everyone was clearly glad he was coming home, one source stated, “Grenell blindsided the president and the White House.”
I am really curious to see how this plays out because Grenell is one of Trump’s favorites, but he clearly cannot have people running around behind his back like this. Stay tuned, as we will update when more information becomes available.
