President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Israel and Iran reached a ceasefire deal to end a nearly two-week military conflict that featured direct missile attacks between both nations, Fox News reported.
The agreement outlines a phased, 24-hour truce beginning with Iran halting operations first and Israel following 12 hours later—bringing an official end to what Trump called "THE 12 DAY WAR."
The deal was confirmed by U.S. officials and a senior Iranian official, with both sides agreeing to begin winding down current military operations before transitioning into a full cessation of hostilities.
The conflict intensified after a U.S. strike targeted Tehran’s nuclear program over the weekend. In response, Iran launched at least six missiles at the U.S. Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Monday.
Qatar's foreign ministry reported that the missiles were intercepted and caused no casualties. Despite the attack, Qatar played an unexpected role in helping negotiate the ceasefire.
Trump said that the war could have lasted "for years" but credited the leadership of both nations for stepping back from further violence and choosing diplomacy instead.
Following the missile incident, President Trump reached out to the Emir of Qatar to help mediate with Iran. Vice President Vance coordinated ceasefire logistics with the Qatari Prime Minister.
According to a diplomat familiar with the talks, the agreement came after discussions involving Trump, Vance, Qatar’s Emir, and the Qatari Prime Minister—all working behind the scenes to end the war.
The diplomat noted that Qatar prioritized peace over retaliation, helping convince Iran to agree to the U.S.-proposed ceasefire despite being targeted by Iranian missiles just hours before.
Trump described the outcome as a global victory and praised Israel and Iran for their "Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence" in preventing a wider conflict in the Middle East.
In social media posts, Trump thanked the Emir of Qatar for seeking peace and expressed gratitude that neither Americans nor Qataris were injured in Iran’s missile attack.
Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) confirmed the ceasefire appeared legitimate and called it a win for the U.S., noting that no American combat lives were lost in the 12-day engagement.
Under the agreement, Iran begins a 12-hour reduction in military operations, after which Israel starts its own 12-hour cessation. The final hour of the second phase marks the official end of the conflict.
Trump stated that the transition to a "Complete and Total CEASEFIRE" would begin when both nations finish their in-progress missions, with the war officially ending after 24 hours of de-escalation.
Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.) praised the president's approach, saying that his willingness to negotiate sends an important signal globally while warning that refusal to engage has consequences.
