Trump border czar hints that sanctuary city mayors could be arrested soon

Donald Trump’s fight with sanctuary cities is about to get very real

Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, just dropped a hint that things are about to change for sanctuary city mayors, and they are not going to like it one bit.

The Fight Begins

The fight between Donald Trump and sanctuary city mayors goes all the way back to his first administration.

The White House tried to get the Supreme Court to take on this case toward the end of Trump’s first administration regarding the lack of cooperation with ICE in California cities.

The California Values Act prevents state and local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE, which would appear to undermine the federal government’s immigration authority.

The Court, however, rejected the case just a few days before Trump left office, leaving Democrat cities open to remain sanctuary cities, at least for the time being.

Round Two

During Trump’s second administration, at Attorney General Pam Bondi’s first press conference, she announced that the administration was taking on sanctuary cities, specifically suing New York over its sanctuary city laws.

Bondi stated, “New York has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over American citizens. It stops. It stops today. If you don’t comply with federal law, we will hold you accountable.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James responded, “Our state laws, including the Green Light law, protect the rights of all New Yorkers and keep our communities safe. I am prepared to defend our laws, just as I always have.”

I, for one, was glad to see Bondi address this so early in the administration, which would hopefully lead to a Supreme Court fight to settle this issue once and for all.

Homan Ready to Drop the Hammer

Homan is not taking any chances this time around, as he just hinted at something that will more than likely force the Supreme Court to take this case.

Rumors are that the administration will work to arrest sanctuary city mayors if they help illegal immigrants avoid capture by ICE, with Homan stating, “The president signed an executive order just this week threatening to defund sanctuary cities for their policies. Wait ‘til you see what’s coming.”

His message was on par with the statement he made earlier in the week regarding the arrest of a judge who helped an illegal escape arrest, stating, “But I said in day one. You can sit aside and watch again. You can argue against us… protest all you want, but when you cross that line — I’ve said this one thousand times — when you cross that line to impediment or knowingly harboring or concealing an illegal alien migrant, you will be prosecuted — judge or not.”

As you guys know, this is the number one issue that I want to see the Supreme Court take on, and the arrest of a judge and possibly of mayors all but ensures the Court will be forced to take this case. I have always maintained that at every turn, save a few exceptions, the Court has ruled that immigration falls under federal purview, so I just don’t see how the Court could ever rule in favor of any city or state being permitted to undermine federal law with sanctuary city laws. I cannot wait to see this battle in court.
