A suspect is facing multiple charges, including arson and attempted murder, following an alleged incendiary attack on the Pennsylvania governor's mansion.
Fox News reported that on Sunday, Cody Balmer, 38, was charged with numerous offenses, including terrorism and aggravated arson, relating to an admitted attack on Governor Josh Shapiro's official residence.
The attack's alleged motivation stems from Balmer’s views on the Israel-Hamas conflict and the governor's religious background.
Balmer reportedly called 911 before the incident, during which he allegedly admitted to setting the fire. In the call, the suspect expressed his belief that Governor Shapiro's actions were causing harm to Palestinians, even going so far as to attribute the death of his acquaintances to the governor.
During that 911 call, Balmer is said to have conveyed his frustration with what he perceived as injustices committed by Governor Shapiro. He mentioned that the governor needed to "leave my family alone" and claimed to want to "apologize."
According to a warrant, surveillance footage captured evidence allegedly showing Balmer breaking a window at the governor's residence and using incendiary devices to commit the crime. State Police Corporal Benjamin Forsythe has noted that the governor’s Jewish faith might have contributed to Balmer’s extreme actions.

Authorities apprehended Balmer, thanks largely to a tip from a woman identified as his "ex-paramour." Reports suggest she stated Balmer confessed the crime to her and urged her to report him.
