Supreme Court rejects Jack Smith's request to fast track immunity review

The Supreme Court rejected a request from Special Counsel Jack Smith to fast track a case to decide if former President Donald Trump was immune from prosecution for alleged crimes committed while he was in office.

Smith was counting on the Supreme Court to fast track the case but they have rejected that appeal and the case will make its way through the regular appeals process which could be quite lengthy.

This is a massive win for Trump as it gives him exactly what he was counting on, time.

Trump's legal strategy to beat the indictments against him revolves around delaying trials and playing for time in hopes of winning the 2024 presidential election.

Should Trump win next November, he will have the power to dissolve the investigations into him and if he is somehow convicted, he can pardon himself.

Out of time

Jack Smith is out of time to take Trump down with his criminal indictment which is terrible news for President Joe Biden.

Biden was counting on Smith and the other prosecutors to get criminal convictions on Trump and yet all of them have failed.

SCOTUS's decision on Friday ensures that Trump's trial will likely be delayed until election season is in full swing and Trump's lawyers want the trial delayed until after the election.

Trump responded to the decision on Truth Social saying, "The Supreme Court has unanimously rejected Deranged Jack Smith's desperate attempt to short circuit our Great Constitution. Crooked Joe Biden and his henchmen waited three years to bring this sham case, and now they have tried and failed to rush this Witch Hunt through the courts. Of course I am entitled to Presidential Immunity."

So the next stop for Trump's immunity case will be the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

That decision will likely be appealed to the Supreme Court regardless of the outcome.

Victory certain

Jack Smith wants to convict Trump of working to overturn the 2020 presidential election and yet it will likely be up to the conservative Supreme Court to make a final decision.

This is exactly what Trump's team were working towards ever since these indictments were officially announced. Playing for time and pushing the case to the Supreme Court where Trump would be safe from activist judges.

A criminal conviction was Joe Biden's last hope of seriously damaging Trump's presidential campaign. Now, Biden's campaign will have to beat Trump in a head-to-head match up and the odds aren't in Biden's favor.
