Substance found at White House confirmed to be cocaine

The White House is having a challenging time explaining the white powder that was discovered Sunday in the West Wing.

According to Reuters, a suspicious substance found Sunday night, which prompted a chaotic evacuation scene of the White House complex. Initial reports said that radio chatter was overheard calling it a "white powdery substance."

"On Sunday evening, the White House complex went into a precautionary closure as officers from the Secret Service Uniformed Division investigated an unknown item found inside a work area," the Secret Service said.

Initial reports also suggested that it was possibly a bag of cocaine. As it would turn out, that's exactly what it was.

Fox News noted:

President Biden was at Camp David at the time of the discovery of the substance. The president's son, Hunter, who is a recovered crack cocaine addict, was also at Camp David at the time of discovery.

The substance was transferred to a Secret Service lab for further testing. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that the substance was cocaine.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was hit with multiple questions regarding the discovery. In true KJP fashion, she redirected all questions to the Secret Service and did her best to dodge the issue.

"They are currently investigating what happened over the weekend. So I would have to refer you to the Secret Service on all of this," KJP said.

She added: "As you know, the President and the First Lady and their family were not here this weekend, as you all reported on this and as you also know that they left on Friday and returned just yesterday."

"Where this was discovered is a heavily-traveled area where many White House- West Wing, I should be even more specific, West Wing visitors come through this particular area, I just don't have anything more to share."

ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott shot a surprising question at the press secretary, asking if the White House believes the American people deserve to know how it happened.

"Can you explain to the American people who would have access to the West Wing on this type of tour and what kind of protocols are in place?" Scott asked, while also asking if the White House was conducting its own investigation into the incident. KJP deferred both questions to the Secret Service.

The debacle has resulted in Republicans at all levels taking jabs at the White House.

One can be assured that the GOP will lean on this insane story heavily as President Joe Biden prepares to run his reelection campaign. It'll be something to see, that's for sure.
