Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' canceled by CBS

This week, some big news broke when it was announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert had been canceled by CBS.

For years, Colbert has been lecturing his audience about the evils of Donald Trump and conservatives in general.

Now that his show has been canceled, congressional Democrats are taking up his cause, hoping to open an investigation into the reason why the network is dropping the show next May.

Off the air

As soon as word came out that CBS-Paramount was cutting the show, rumors started that the company was caving to Trump.

The network then announced that the cancellation was "not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount."

The statement added, “We are proud that Stephen called CBS home."

This is a bottom-line move, as viewership on these late-night shows has been caving since they became outlets for Democrat talking points.

Kimmel lashes out

Fellow late-night host Jimmy Kimmel could soon be suffering the same fate as Colbert, as he is far worse when it comes to lecturing his viewers about the evils of conservatives.

So, needless to say, he has had some rather choice words about Colbert’s show being canceled, posting, “Love you Stephen. F–k you and all your Sheldons CBS.”

I can remember reading a story about Johnny Carson addressing the issue of blending politics with comedy, and while he obviously told political jokes, he always refrained from taking a side and lecturing his fans, believing that was not his role.

He cautioned people to stick to entertaining, but too many modern-day hosts believe they are the smartest and most righteous people in the room, and they have managed to take what was once essentially a license to print money and are instead burning it.

Dems take up the fight

We are a country that is now more than $37 trillion in debt, and what do Democrats want to investigate? Yes, the cancellation of the Colbert television show.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) wrote, "Just finished taping with Stephen Colbert who announced his show was cancelled. If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons, the public deserves to know. And deserves better.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) added, "CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump -- a deal that looks like bribery. America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons. Watch and share his message."

You just have to love the coordinated talking points… “Americans deserve to know.” Quite frankly, I couldn't care less, and I surely do not think that is something that needs to be investigated by Congress, burning more taxpayer dollars because Democrats are upset one of their lackeys lost his show.
