The whacky, progressive congressional "Squad" isn't having a great start to 2024, and for one member, her situation just became considerably worse.
According to the Daily Mail, Rep. Cori Bush (R-MO) is under investigation for the alleged misuse of campaign funds -- over $750,000 in total -- for personal security.
The Daily Mail noted:
The progressive Squad member spent thousands on security services out of her campaign account since getting elected in 2020. That includes over $120,000 to her husband Courtney Merritts, according to her most recent campaign filings, who she married in February 2023.
The original complaint regarding her misuse of the funds was brought by ethics watchdog the Foundation for Accountability & Civic Trust (FACT).
Kendra Arnold, executive director for the watchdog group, explained that some of the changes Bush made to her filings are troubling, and could end up in a serious legal mess for the progressive Missouri Democrat.
"At that time, we believed strongly that there were several facts that led to a need for an investigation into the into Rep. Bush's payments to her then husband,' Arnold told the outlet regarding Bush' initial filing, which was later changed.
She added, "They were the amount that she was paying [Merritts], the fact that he reportedly didn't have a license to perform the security services and that she was also paying other individuals and another vendor for those same services."
If that wasn't bad enough, the outlet reported that Bush could also be on the legal hook for a potential perjury and mail fraud charge.

It was noted that her husband lacked the proper security credentials through the city of St. Louis -- or Washington D.C. -- at the time.
Arnold's complaint is being investigated at the same time as the Justice Department's investigation into Bush's finacial activities, though details regarding the DOJ investigation are scarce at the current time.
"The next step really is waiting for the DOJ to conduct its work, and how long that takes varies," Arnold said.
She added, "There's no way for us to tell what exactly they're looking at, and what precisely what evidence they're gathering."
For her part, Bush has called the investigations "frivolous" and insisted that she's cooperating with federal investigators.
