The New York Post reports that the special counsel who will be investigating former President Donald Trump has deep connections to President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama.
That special counsel is Jack Smith. He has been appointed by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to oversee at least two Department of Justice (DOJ) investigations.
One is an investigation into Trump's involvement in the Capitol protest of Jan. 6, 2021. The other is an investigation into the ongoing dispute between Trump and the DOJ regarding the documents that were seized from Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate during an unprecedented raid by the FBI of a former president's residence.
Garland claims that the reason that he appointed Smith is because "it is in the public interest."
"Based on recent developments, including the former president's announcement that he is a candidate for president in the next election, and the sitting president's stated intention to be a candidate as well, I have concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint a special counsel," Garland said.
Many, however - including former President Trump - believe that Garland's actions here are politically motivated, particularly given the fact that Garland's announcement came just after Trump announced his 2024 candidacy for the U.S. presidency.
It turns out, though, that there are even more reasons to believe that Garland's real motivation is political. It has been discovered that Smith has ties to both Obama and Biden through his wife, Katy Chevigny.
The connection between Chevigny and Biden is that, in 2020, Chevigny donated $2,000 to Biden's presidential campaign.
The connection between Chevigny and Obama is that Chevigny has a "producer" credit for Becoming, the 2020 Netflix documentary that has as its subject former first lady Michelle Obama.
On top of this, attention has been called to some highly partisan tweets that Chevigny has made in the past.
In one tweet, for example, from November 2020 - when CNN announced that Biden won the presidential election - Chevigny wrote, "Van Jones us crying on TV! We're with you, man! Thank goodness . . ."
Trump's response to the news about Chevigny was to refer to her as "the wife of the hard-line Radical Left Special Counsel (prosecutor), an acolyte of [former attorney general] Eric Holder and Barack Hussein Obama."
Trump, in a separate message, referred to Smith as a "political hit man, who is totally compromised, and shouldn't be allowed anywhere near our already highly WEAPONIZED & CORRUPT 'Justice' Department and FBI."
It sure does appear as though leftist forces are, once again, aligning in order to try to take Trump down. They have been unsuccessful thus far, and now they seem desperate to ensure that Trump doesn't make it to 2024.
