South Texas Democrat criticized for past rhetoric after ICE attack

In a shocking turn of events, Bobby Pulido, a South Texas Democratic congressional candidate and Tejano music star, finds himself under fire for past inflammatory statements against President Donald Trump and Republicans, especially in the wake of a deadly anti-ICE shooting in Dallas last week.

Fox News reported his controversy centers on Pulido’s history of harsh rhetoric, which critics argue fuels division and hostility, even as he publicly condemns political violence following recent tragic events.

Let’s rewind to 2015, when Pulido donned a Halloween costume depicting a bloodied Donald Trump, complete with a now-deleted social media caption mocking the then-candidate with a jab about parentage.

By 2016, Pulido was posting online that Trump’s candidacy catered to far-right elements, branding him as thoroughly prejudiced in a blunt social media takedown.

Fast forward to 2017, and Pulido didn’t hold back, commenting on a news story about neglected California farms under Trump’s immigration policies by claiming that Trump supporters got the discriminatory outcomes they desired.

That same year, he unleashed profanities in Spanish on social media to describe what he saw as biased law enforcement, showing a pattern of sharp-edged commentary that’s now haunting his campaign.

Recent Rhetoric Clashes with Condemnations

In a more recent statement from August 2024, Pulido accused Republicans of hypocrisy, claiming they’ve morphed into the very ideologies they once criticized, like Marxism and fascism.

Yet, after a horrifying attack on Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, Pulido took to social media on Sept. 10, 2024, to decry the incident, stating, “I don’t care what side of the political aisle you are, what happened to Charlie Kirk is abhorrent.”

He urged for calmer discourse across the board, but critics like the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) aren’t buying it, pointing to his track record as evidence of double standards.

The NRCC’s Reilly Richardson didn’t mince words, declaring, “Bobby Pulido’s history of engaging in extreme political rhetoric is utterly disqualifying,” arguing that such language from Democrats has long targeted law enforcement and ICE agents.

Former Texas Republican Rep. Mayra Flores, speaking to Fox News Digital, echoed this sentiment, noting Pulido’s influence as a Tejano icon and saying, “He has an obligation to talk about this issue and to show respect towards our [law enforcement] men and women.”

Flores warned that heated words from public figures can inspire real-world harm, a concern amplified by last week’s deadly shooting at a Dallas ICE facility, which Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson called “horrific” proof of the dangers posed by anti-law enforcement narratives.

Broader Context of Pulido’s Activism

Pulido hasn’t shied away from social causes, posting a black square on Instagram for “Blackout Tuesday” and sharing footage of a Houston Black Lives Matter rally with a supportive caption blessing Texas.

In a video, he acknowledged the existence of good officers while maintaining that oppression is a universal governmental flaw, a nuanced take that still draws ire from those who see it as undermining law enforcement.

As the dust settles, Pulido’s silence in response to recent requests for comment from Fox News Digital speaks volumes, leaving his critics to wonder if he’ll address the disconnect between his past barbs and present pleas for unity—because in today’s charged climate, words aren’t just words; they’re potential kindling for chaos.
