South Carolina police investigating Rep. Nancy Mace's claims against former fiancé

Rep. Nancy Mace's allegations against her former fiancé and associates have caught the attention of police who have launched an investigation into bombshell allegations made by Mace.

The New York Post reported that South Carolina state police confirmed an active inquiry into sexual assault claims made by Rep. Mace against her ex-fiancé, Patrick Byrant, alongside his business partners.

Mace accused Byrant and his business partners of engaging in a range of grave sexual offenses against women, including minors. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) commenced this investigation in December 2023 following a report from the US Capitol Police.

The investigative process reportedly involves multiple interviews, the issuance of search warrants, and the compilation of a comprehensive case file. In a statement, SLED indicated that this ongoing and intricate investigation involves numerous lawyers and will be submitted for prosecutorial review once concluded.

Mace's allegations indicate a harrowing discovery of more than 10,000 photos and videos on Byrant's phone in late 2023. She claimed to have found evidence of exploitative acts, including non-consensual media and rape, insisting these discoveries were accidental.

Mace's Disturbing Discoveries and Reactions

Mace particularly recounted an incident where a woman appeared unaware of being violated, with the assault being captured on video. The congresswoman also claimed to have found footage of herself undressed and unknowingly filmed, implicating Byrant in an alleged assault.

The safety concerns stemming from these allegations led Mace to relocate her residence several times. She further disclosed the psychological toll, revealing she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the events.

Mace also mentioned that one of Byrant’s business partners attempted to intimidate her. She voiced criticism towards Attorney General Alan Wilson for his handling of the case, expressing readiness for arrest if it meant advocating for women's rights.

The response from the South Carolina AG's office negated Mace's claims, labeling them as baseless and politically motivated. The office stated that no contact was made regarding her concerns.

Byrant rejected the allegations, asserting his willingness to work with legal systems to vindicate himself. Meanwhile, SLED continues its efforts to unravel the complexities presented by the case, which includes reviewing photographic and video material provided by Mace.

The congresswoman passionately decried what she sees as horrific offenses against women, describing those implicated as part of a premeditated and calculated exploitation scheme within her district.

Mace emphasized that these allegations transcend matters of "bitter" relationships or consensual encounters, focusing instead on severe unauthorized recordings and sex trafficking concerns.

Investigation into sexual misconduct involving distinguished political figures carries significant societal and legal implications. Mace's case underscores the nuanced challenges in balancing justice, privacy, and public interest when public figures are involved.

Legal Proceedings and Public Interest Continue

As the eyes of the public and media stay affixed, the resulting legal proceedings bear potential impacts extending beyond personal reputations, possibly influencing future legislative efforts to protect victims of similar crimes.

While Byrant maintains his innocence, and with capable prosecutors poised to assess evidence, the trajectory of this investigation could shape discourse around law, security, and privacy in the political sphere.

SLED indicated that once their inquiries conclude, the amassed documentation will be available for public access. This transparency aims to inform the community, ensuring justice is seen to be upheld.
