Some believe judge could give Trump jail time for gag order violations

Former President Donald Trump still faces multiple legal battles, some of which pose a more serious risk to his future than others.

Some believe that while the New York civil trial could hurt him the most financially, the federal 2020 election interference case, brought forth by Special Counsel Jack Smith, has the highest probability of resulting in some level of criminal punishment, such as jail.

One of the arguments is that Trump continues to violate various gag orders that have been placed on him in several of his ongoing cases, including the election interference case.

Some argue that it's one thing for Trump do disobey gag orders in the civil case, as that only results in financial fines.

Doing the same in federal, criminal-level cases could have a different result if the judge decides to make the move despite the unprecedented nature of such a decision.

DNYUZ noted:

But with the D.C. case, his refusal to follow court orders could have a very different result than a meaningless financial penalty.

All eyes are now on U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington, with legal scholars wondering whether she’d take that dramatic step.

Catherine Ross, a professor emeritus at George Washington University Law School, believes that Judge Tanya Chutkan will take whatever action she believes is necessary in the case.

"I think by every indication, Judge Chutkan is well prepared for this. She’s not putting up with this," Ross said.

Paul Saputo, a Texas defense lawyer, echoed that sentiment, implying that Chutkan isn't shy about what she might do to Trump, especially if he continues to humiliate her and the court in his Truth Social posts.

"The judge in D.C. doesn’t seem like she is willing to tolerate a lot of nonsense," Saputo said.

He added, "She seems like she is laying down the law. And I think there’s a real possibility that if he violates her order in a meaningful way, he could end up in jail. Obviously, that would blow everyone’s mind."

For his part, Trump doesn't seem too worried about the situation, as he continues to publicly blast the judges and prosecutors involved in his cases, as his attorneys argue he's protect by the First Amendment in his criticisms.

Additionally, his style against the judges and court seem to be doing quite well for his 2024 presidential campaign, as he continues to raise mountains of fundraising cash and maintains or boosts his strong polling numbers.

Some even believe that if Trump is imprisoned for any length of time, his presidency in 2024 is all but guaranteed.
