Senator Cory Booker marries Alexis Lewis in private ceremony

Well, folks, love has struck Capitol Hill as New Jersey’s own Senator Cory Booker, 56, has finally tied the knot with a much younger Alexis Lewis, 38, in a weekend ceremony that’s got traditionalists raising an eyebrow.

In a whirlwind romance that could rival any Hollywood script, Booker and Lewis exchanged vows in a private interfaith service in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, followed by a legal union in Newark on Monday, with only close family and parents as witnesses, the New York Post reported

The couple’s journey began in May 2024, when a mutual friend with a knack for matchmaking set them up on a blind date while Lewis, a D.C. native, was visiting family.

A Blind Date Sparks Fast Romance

That first encounter lasted over five hours, and Booker, ever the charmer, persuaded Lewis to push back her flight from Los Angeles for a second date the very next night.

Date two featured dinner at a tapas spot in Newark—where Booker first made his political mark as mayor—and a trip to see the Broadway show “Suffs,” capped off with a first kiss outside the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

From there, the relationship moved at lightning speed, with the couple shacking up together by April, even fostering a shepherd mix named Cooke to play house.

Proposal in Paradise, Hawaiian Style

By late August 2025, Booker popped the question in Kauai, Hawaii, pulling out all the stops with native musicians serenading Lewis with her favorite tune, “Dreamlover” by Mariah Carey.

“Well, honey, this is the song that’s playing at your proposal,” Booker reportedly said, as noted by the New York Times, a line that sounds sweet but makes one wonder if romance today needs such orchestrated flair.

Call it chivalrous or just calculated, but the engagement was announced in September 2025, barely a year after they met, proving some folks still believe in love at first sight—or at least, love after a five-hour chat.

Interfaith Ceremony Reflects Diverse Values

The wedding itself, held in an undisclosed D.C. location for privacy, was blessed by both a pastor and a rabbi, a nod to Booker’s Christian roots and Lewis’s Jewish heritage.

Then came the legal bit on Monday at the U.S. District Court in Newark, a fitting spot given Booker’s history as the city’s mayor, with just their parents looking on.

Post-nuptials, they indulged in Italian pastries and a vegan chocolate chip cookie dough cake—because, of course, Booker’s vegan lifestyle had to take center stage, even on his big day.

Age Gap and Modern Love Debated

Now, let’s talk about Lewis, a 38-year-old with a shiny NYU bachelor’s and a Cornell MBA, currently a director at Brasa Capital Management in Los Angeles, and formerly in the office of ex-L.A. mayor Eric Garcetti—credentials that suggest she’s no stranger to power circles.

“My girlfriends and I say, ‘Change your flight, change your life,’ because it’s exactly what happened,” Lewis told the New York Times, a quip that’s cute but glosses over how fast-tracked relationships like this can raise questions about timing and motive in political spheres.

While Booker, a perennial bachelor once dubbed a “Top 40” catch by Town & Country back in 2013, may have found his match, the 18-year age gap and progressive-leaning personal choices here might not sit well with those who value slower, more traditional courtships; still, their happiness is undeniable, and that’s worth respecting.
