Sen. Bob Menendez faces possible federal corruption charges: Report

In a bombshell weekend report, it was revealed that a top Democratic U.S. senator faces possible serious corruption charges out of President Joe Biden's Department of Justice.

According to The Daily Wire, Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), an avid Biden supporter and ally, could soon be charged by federal prosecutors, as a Wall Street Journal report noted that a recently scheduled meeting with the senator's lawyers could mean the DOJ "developed the evidence they need to bring charges."

It was noted that such meetings occur toward the end of an investigation to give defense lawyers a chance to argue why their client shouldn't be charged.

It was announced last October that Menendez was being investigated for corruption regarding a lucrative contract awarded to a meat processor in New Jersey.

NBC News reported at the time that "IS EG Halal, a New Jersey-based halal meat business, won 'an exclusive worldwide contract with Egypt to certify halal exports — as numerous other firms’ contracts were suddenly canceled in 2019."

The situation drew immediate scrutiny, given that the company, according to the U.S. Agriculture, had "little experience" in the certification process.

But most eyebrows were raised over the fact that the New Jersey senator's wife just happens to be friends with the company's owners.

This is only the latest in the senator's history of running into the law.

The Daily Wire noted:

In 2015, Menendez was indicted on bribery charges for allegedly accepting “luxury vacations, golf outings, campaign donations and expensive flights” from Florida physician Salomon Melgen in exchange for political favors.

The outlet added:

Prosecutors began investigating Menendez when they were tipped off in 2012 that Menendez was allegedly having sex with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic.

The fact that he's even still in the Senate with such a history is mind-boggling, but then again, it's New Jersey Democratic voters making that decision, so it's not totally surprising.

Only time will tell if Menendez is held accountable for his latest shady alleged maneuvering.
