We all know Democrats love to blame everything on Donald Trump, but Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) just proved how bad TDS really is in this country on the left.
After a Mexican tall ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge, Schumer went public, claiming that DOGE could be to blame.
The ship was apparently a training vessel for the Mexican Navy, which hit the bridge, leaving two dead and more than a dozen injured.
Without any proof of his claim, Schumer stated, “We know there has been meddling by the Trump administration into USCG staffing, and we need to know how this might have impacted the events of last night — from a command, communication and local coordination level.”
He continued, “There are indications that this service [Vehicle Traffic System] may not be fully or adequately functional in light of a hiring freeze. If this were the case, the Brooklyn Bridge accident would be a national harbinger, demanding immediate attention.”
At the time of the crash, there were no other boats visible, as it seemed either the captain was at fault or there was a possible mechanical issue. We later found out it was the latter.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams immediately shot down the notion that DOGE had anything to do with this crash.
He stated, “I’m not clear on where the senator got that information from, but I know we had a full response on both sides of the river, and we normally do that, we manage crises extremely well in this city.”
When Adams was pressed on the cuts being an issue that could have caused the crash, he responded, “Unless the senator knows something that I don’t know, but I don’t know what other role the Coast Guard would have played.
“We have the boats that were needed, we have the manpower that was needed, and we responded accordingly to get those 19 injured off the ship.”
The danger of Schumer making a statement like that is that it immediately runs wild on the internet. Had Schumer waited just one day, he would have learned what really happened.
Sources revealed that due to a mechanical failure, the ship lost steering control, and with mostly trainees on board, this was about as bad a situation as it could be in terms of working the problem.
When the ship lost its steering, the currents quickly drove the boat into the bridge. US Coast Guard Lt. Henry Lipian suggested the crew could have dropped anchor, but even that was not guaranteed to work. He stated, “It doesn’t mean an anchor’s going to work. It might slow the ship a little bit, but it might not be enough to stop it. It’s no guarantee. You lose your engine for whatever reason, you’re at the mercy of the elements.”
The official cause of the accident is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, so we would expect a full report very soon.
