Schumer says Dems will retake Senate in 2026

Since the end of the last election cycle, Democrats have been getting clocked in polls, but Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who is now facing calls to step down from his leadership role, is not worried.

According to Schumer, Democrats are going to take back the Senate in the 2026 cycle.

Leadership questioned

Schumer was in trouble when the GOP retook the Senate in 2024, but he really started to face problems when he allowed a procedural vote to block the filibuster.

While Democrats did not support the short-term spending bill when it was put on the floor, Schumer rallied enough Democrats to allow that bill to pass due a procedural vote, which was one in the same to the left and associated activist groups.

This led to numerous organizations, high-profile liberals, and even a few members of Congress wondering if Schumer was the right man to lead the party in the future.

One of those groups was Indivisible, which stated, “After weeks of constituents demanding that Democrats use this rare, precious point of leverage on the government funding bill, Schumer did the opposite. He led the charge to wave the white flag of surrender. But Indivisible has no intention of surrendering to Trump, Musk, and congressional Republicans.”

CNN sees trouble ahead for Schumer

Next up for Schumer was a poll on CNN regarding his future as Senate leader for the Democrats.

Schumer’s numbers were not good, with 48% of those polled saying that Schumer needed to step down.

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten stated, “New York Democrats on Chuck Schumer -- view him favorably in December of 2024. That was just a few months ago -- it was 73%. Look at where that number has fallen to in just a few months. It is now down to just 52%. That is the lowest I could ever find in Siena College on how Democrats in Chuck Schumer’s home state view him."

Enten went on, “And keep in mind, if you’re thinking about a primary challenge, it would be a few years away — but [Democratic New York Rep.] Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s favorable rating among Democrats is considerably higher, in the 60’s. So he is doing quite poorly in his own home state of New York. I never thought I’d see the day in which just 52% of New York Democrats view Chuck Schumer favorably. It’s almost unfathomable.”

Not to worry?

Even with all these negative trends, Schumer says there is nothing to worry about.

He stated, “I believe I will [become majority leader in 2027]."

“Trump is alienating people left and right … the electorate will desert the Republican candidates who embraced Trump in an overwhelming way," Schumer added.

Right now, the Trump administration’s worst enemy is itself, and it keeps serving up ammunition for Democrats. The liberals have yet another recent Trump pardon for a corrupt politician and the president's alleged intent to serve a third term in 2028 as potential ammunition. If the GOP loses either the House or the Senate, these are reasons why it will happen.
