San Diego Padres owner Peter Seidler dead at 63

The sports world -- specifically Major League Baseball (MLB) -- lost a legend this week.

According to the Daily Caller, it was announced that San Diego Padres Chairman and owner Peter Seidler has passed away at age 63, leaving many shocked and saddened at the news.

The Daily Caller noted:

A two-time survivor of cancer, Seidler was recovering from a procedure that he underwent back in September, still battling a months-long illness.

The team released a statement on Seidler's passing, through current CEO Erik Greupner.

"The Padres organization mourns the passing of our beloved Chairman and owner, Peter Seidler. Today, our love and prayers encircle Peter’s family as they grieve the loss of an extraordinary husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend,” said Greupner.

He added, "Peter was a kind and generous man who was devoted to his wife, children, and extended family. He also consistently exhibited heartfelt compassion for others, especially those less fortunate."

"His generous spirit is now firmly embedded in the fabric of the Padres. Although he was our Chairman and owner, Peter was at his core a Padres fan. He will be dearly missed."

Unlike some team owners in the world of professional sports, Seidler was cherished by the team and fans around the globe.

Tributes poured in across social media in the wake of the news, with many remembering his kind and generous spirit, and his brilliance in turning the team into a formidable and profitable business venture.

My husband is a sports lawyer, and no client has meant as much to him as his friend & mentor Peter Seidler, the San Diego Padres owner who died yesterday. Peter was a gentleman who adored his family and worshipped baseball. May his memory be a blessing," one X user wrote.

"It was an honor to root for a team with an owner that wanted to win and was also a good person" Peter Seidler was a gem and his memory will forever live on amongst San Diego and Padres fans worldwide," another X user wrote.
