As the United States continues to try to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, both the latter nations' presidents are making it rather difficult.
Volodymyr Zelensky keeps making his case to the media, while Vladimir Putin will not stop bombing Ukraine, which has Donald Trump rightfully frustrated.
Earlier this week, Trump made it sound like he thought the administration was close to getting a deal inked between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump, however, blamed Zelensky for tanking the deal in a rant on Truth Social.
Zelensky had discussed the matter with the media prior, telling them, “There’s nothing to talk about here. This is against our constitution.” His comments were in regard to possibly giving up his claim to the Crimean Peninsula.
Trump responded, “It’s inflammatory statements like Zelenskyy’s that makes it so difficult to settle this War.”
As peace talks were continuing, one would think that Russia would dial back its attacks, but the complete opposite happened.
Putin called for a massive missile strike in Kyiv, which left at least nine people dead and dozens more injured.
This was the worst attack carried out against Ukraine since the peace talks started, and it will surely set them back.
Oksana Bilozir, a student injured in the attack, has little faith this will end anytime soon, stating, “I honestly don’t even know how this will all end, it’s very scary. I only believe that if we can stop them on the battlefield, then that’s it. No diplomacy works here.”
Even with the setback of the latest attack, which had Trump livid, the president still says talks are moving forward, saying they are making “a lot of progress in talks.”
Trump added, "We'll see what happens. This next few days is going to be very important."
After the bombing, Trump took to Truth Social to call out Putin, posting, "Vladimir, STOP! I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV," he added. "Not necessary, and very bad timing."
Trump got a little testy with a reporter on Friday as well. He was asked why he was not able to end the war on day one of his administration, as he promised, and the president shot back that the comment was made in jest, meaning that he would get it ended, but that is not what he said, and the media always takes him on his word. This is a disaster for Trump at this point, so he has to get these two countries together and get his war ended soon or it will be just one more bullet for Dems to use against the GOP in the 2026 cycle.
