Rumors grow regarding Trump's possible VP selection

Former President Donald Trump is destroying his Republican competition in the race for the GOP nomination.

Some believe the hangers-on might be sticking around for a possible shot at running for a vice presidential slot.

Of course, Trump's VP pick will likely be the next set of bombshell news, especially given the fact that the Republican bench, overall, is incredibly deep this cycle.

In a piece from the Daily Caller, it was noted that most of the GOP candidates still standing have dismissed the idea of accepting the call from Trump should he offer them a VP shot.

However, two candidates, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, have not exactly dismissed the idea -- at least not as firmly as the rest.

The Daily Caller noted:

Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy have poured water on the notion that they are campaigning for second place.

However, when asked by the DCNF if they would rule out being Trump’s pick for vice president, both Ramaswamy and Haley’s campaign did not directly answer.

While Haley seems more of a longshot given that she and Trump have exchanged sharply-pointed barbs over the last few months, Ramaswamy is certainly a possibility.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has explicitly written off the idea, saying there's no question he'd rather stay a governor than be a vice president. But the governor seized the moment and called out Haley for not dismissing the idea firmly.

Haley's camp responded, saying, "Phony Ron DeSantis has spent ten times more money attacking Nikki Haley than Donald Trump. He’ll say anything to try to salvage his sinking ship of a campaign. Nikki has been very clear from day one, she doesn’t play for second. Ron is trying to play for fourth in New Hampshire."

Many in the MAGA support camp have praised Ramaswamy from the get-go, as his style has similar tones to that of Trump's, and their policy visions are essentially in exact alignment.

Not only has Trump hinted on several occasions, and once mostly recently, that Ramaswamy would be an interesting VP choice, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson recently said the same.

Trump and those in his orbit have dropped hints before that the VP choice would ultimately probably be a female, which does make the most sense at this point in time.

Only time will tell who he calls, and if they'll answer.
