Riot declared, arrests made near Portland ICE facility

Chaos erupted in Portland, Oregon, when a so-called "free speech" protest spiraled into a riot, leaving officers injured and a federal building under siege. On June 14, 2025, what began as a large gathering near an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility turned violent, with fireworks, rocks, and graffiti transforming a public demonstration into a lawless assault. The progressive push for unchecked expression clashed hard with reality, and law enforcement had to step in.

A massive protest dubbed "No Kings" kicked off at 1 p.m., drawing tens of thousands to the South Portland Neighborhood. By evening, the event took a dark turn, with a mob attacking the ICE facility, injuring four officers, and forcing police to declare a riot, reported Fox News. This wasn’t about free speech—it was about destruction dressed up as dissent.

Police rushed to the scene just before 6 p.m. after reports of a federal officer injured by the crowd, though that officer ultimately didn’t need medical treatment. The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) warned protesters not to interfere with a medical response inside the facility, but the mob ignored the call. Instead, they escalated, launching smoke grenades and breaking glass in a brazen attempt to storm the building.

Violence Erupts at ICE Facility

Fireworks lit up the night—not in celebration, but as weapons hurled at federal law enforcement. Demonstrators threw rocks and forcibly entered the ICE facility, leaving the building defaced with graffiti. The scene was less a protest than a tantrum, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents resorting to tear gas to hold the line.

Federal law enforcement secured the facility after the attack, but not before significant damage was done. The PPB declared a riot as criminal acts continued unabated, a move that underscored the line between free speech and felony. Portland’s history of tolerating such chaos only emboldens these outbursts.

Three individuals faced arrests for their roles in the mayhem, each charged with serious offenses. Sabian Crisantos, 25, was nabbed just after 8 p.m. for attempting to assault a public safety officer, a bold but foolish move. The arrests, PPB insisted, targeted only criminal behavior, not protected speech, though some will surely cry victim.

Arrests Highlight Criminal Acts

Tyson Kahnert, 20, was arrested around 10:50 p.m. for chucking a rock at the ICE building, earning charges like first-degree criminal mischief and attempted assault. His rap sheet also includes harassment and escaping custody, painting a picture of reckless defiance. The progressive mantra of “no consequences” clearly didn’t apply here.

Cory Oien, 38, capped the night’s arrests around 1 a.m. on June 15, caught stealing traffic control devices and driving under the influence. Charged with first-degree theft and DUI, Oien’s actions show how quickly “protest” can devolve into petty crime. All three were booked into Multnomah County Detention Center, where they’ll face the music.

“The arrests were strictly focused on criminal actions, and not constitutionally protected free speech,” the PPB stated. Nice try, but the left will likely spin this as an attack on their rights, ignoring the rocks and fireworks. Free speech doesn’t include smashing windows or endangering lives.

Officers Injured, Investigations Ongoing

Four officers were injured during the riot, a grim reminder of the risks law enforcement faces when crowds turn feral. The PPB’s measured response—arresting only those caught red-handed—shows restraint in a city often criticized for coddling lawbreakers. Yet, the injuries sting, and the woke narrative rarely acknowledges the human toll on police.

“Individuals who engaged in violent activity or property destruction will be investigated and are subject to arrest and prosecution,” the PPB warned. That’s a promise conservatives hope is kept, but Portland’s track record of leniency raises doubts. The left’s obsession with “defunding” police only makes these clashes more inevitable.

The PPB noted that more arrests may follow as investigations continue, a nod to thorough police work over knee-jerk reactions. “Just because arrests are not made at the scene, when tensions are high, that does not mean that people are not being charged with crimes later,” they added. Patience in pursuit of justice is admirable, but swift accountability would send a stronger message.

Portland’s Recurring Chaos

The ICE facility, a frequent target of progressive ire, stood as a symbol of federal authority under attack. Graffiti and broken glass aren’t arguments—they’re vandalism, plain and simple. The “No Kings” crowd might fancy themselves revolutionaries, but their antics only alienate those who value order.

Portland’s permissive culture has long incubated these outbursts, with local leaders often hesitant to crack down. The riot’s fallout—four injured officers, a battered federal building—demands a reckoning, not more excuses. Conservatives see this as a failure of leadership, plain and simple.

Saturday’s riot wasn’t about free speech; it was about a mob testing the limits of lawlessness. The arrests and injuries are a wake-up call: unchecked progressive ideals breed disorder, and someone always pays the price. Portland deserves better than another cycle of chaos and apologies.
