Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was formally censured this week in the House, marking a historic occasion given that it's a rare occurrence.Â
According to CBS News, Tlaib was targeted for censure after a number of comments she made regarding the Israel-Hamas war, specifically antisemitic remarks.

The severity of the issue transcended politics, which was evidenced when nearly two-dozen Democrats joined Republicans in favor of censuring the Michigan progressive.
The Hill noted:
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.), accused Tlaib of “promoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.” It also references her use over the weekend of the controversial phrase “from the river to the sea,” which is considered by many to be antisemitic.
Tlaib was given many chances to retract her words, but clearly had no interest in doing so. She's the only Palestinian-American in Congress.
The House passed the censure against Tlaib on Tuesday in a 234 to 188 vote. Twenty-two Democrats joined all but four Republicans in voting to censure her.
Tlaib has continued to call for a ceasefire in Israel, all but ignoring the atrocities committed against innocent Israeli women, children, and men by savage, cowardly Hamas terrorists, who originated from the Gaza Strip.
Some of the Democrats who voted in favor of the censure resolution issued statements regarding their decision to do so.
"We are at an exceedingly perilous moment, when emotions and intentions are on a razor’s edge. I believe that Members of Congress should be free to express their opinions, no matter how distasteful they may be. I also believe they have a duty to express the values and priorities of their districts,” Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) said.Â
He added, "I recognize this censure resolution is not a perfect resolution in its language or form, but unfortunately it is the only vehicle available to formally rebuke the dangerous disinformation and aspersions that Rep. Tlaib continues to use and defend. I feel that I have no other recourse but to vote to censure her."
JUST IN: Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib has officially been censured for comments she made about Israel.
The move comes after members of the Squad had all out meltdowns on the House floor in an effort to stop the censure.

Notably, four Republicans voted against censuring Tlaib, including Reps. Ken Buck (R-CO), John Duarte (R-CA), Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Tom McClintock (R-CA).
Only time will tell if additional anti-Israel Democrats suffer the same fate.
