Rep. Ocasio-Cortez rocked with FEC ethics complaint over concealment of campaign spending

Radical progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is back in the headlines, but this time, it's not the kind of attention that she wants.

According to a Daily Caller exclusive, Ocasio-Cortez is in the hot seat following an ethics complaint by none other than the Federal Election Commission (FEC) that accused her of concealing thousands of dollars in campaign spending.

The outlet noted:

The Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint cites more than $9,600 in reported campaign credit card expenditures that lacked information on the purpose of the charges.

"⁦This is rich @AOC calls for impeachment of Clarence Thomas 4 accepting gifts. She herself is under investigations for accepting gifts, tickets 4 the Gala prices starting at $35K. Next investigation, she appears to be spending her campaign funds for?" Amanda Stafford tweeted.

The ethics complaint to the FEC was originally filed on behalf of the Coolidge Reagan Foundation by Dan Becker.

In the complaint, AOC was accused of "blatant" ethics violations.

"This Complaint arises from Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s repeated, blatant violations of federal campaign finance law to conceal how she spent thousands of dollars of campaign funds."

It added: "On numerous occasions throughout 2022, Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez’s authorized candidate committee, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress (‘AOC for Congress’), reported tens of thousands of dollars of disbursements for card payments and card payment reimbursements to Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez herself; American Express; and an entity called ‘Veyond!,’ which appears to have provided virtual reality services and apparently no longer operates under that name."

The ethics complaint continued:

“In each case, the reports do not fully disclose the purposes of each payment for which the charge card was used; the sum of the specific Memo Item entries is consistently hundreds or even thousands of dollars less than the total amount paid to the recipient. Although campaigns are permitted to use charge cards (or reimburse candidates for use of their personal charge cards) for otherwise permissible campaign-related expense, their disclosure reports must accurately identify both the recipient of those funds, as well as each of the campaign-related goods and services those charge cards were used to purchase,”

Twitter reacted immediately to the news, with many calling out her hypocritical nature and seeming lack of caring of the average Americans she represents.

"AOC Concealed Thousands In Campaign Spending, Ethics Complaint Alleges..while demanding the common people to suffer," one Twitter user wrote.

Another Twitter user wrote: "Part of the corrupt swamp. But apparently acceptable to her constituents."

Only time will tell if AOC is held accountable. One can be sure if it were any Republican lawmaker, there would already be calls for congressional intervention.
