Rep. Matt Gaetz torches FBI Director Christopher Wray during House testimony

It was not a good week for FBI Director Chris Wray, to say the least.

This week, during his testimony before the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee, Wray was grilled on a number of topics by high-profile GOP lawmakers, with many dialing in on the multiple scandals surrounding the Biden family.

Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz tore into Wray, lasering in on specific takeaways from certain texts recovered from Hunter Biden's WhatsApp messaging app.

Conservative Brief noted:

Wray faced questions about the alleged two-tiered justice system in America and the weaponization of federal law enforcement against conservatives. Gaetz began questioning with an allegation that Hunter Biden had sent a WhatsApp message threatening his father and demanding money from a Chinese business contact,

After he was done grilling Wray, Gaetz tweeted, "FBI Director Christopher Wray is protecting the Biden Crime Family!"

Gaetz asked, "Sounds like a shakedown, doesn’t it, Director?" referring to the text message on Hunter Biden's WhatsApp account.

"I’m not going to get into commenting on that," Wray responded.

Gaetz quickly fired back: "You seem deeply uncurious about it, don’t you? Almost suspiciously uncurious. Are you protecting the Bidens?"

After strongly denying the Republican lawmaker's suggestion that he's playing favorites, Wray was quickly cut off by Gaetz again.

"You won’t answer the question about whether or not that’s a shakedown, and everybody knows why you won’t answer it. Because to the millions of people who will see this, they know it is, and your inability to acknowledge that is deeply revealing about you," Gaetz said.

After several additional questions on various FBI-related controversial topics, Gaetz dropped a verbal nuke on the federal law enforcement agency director.

"You preside over the FBI that has the lowest level of trust in the FBI’s history. People trusted the FBI more when J. Edgar Hoover was running the place than when you are, and the reason is because you don’t give straight answers," the Republican lawmaker said.

He added, "You give answers that later a court deems aren’t true and then at the end of the day, you won’t criticize an obvious shakedown when it is directly in front of us, and it appears you’re whitewashing the conduct of corrupt people."
