Rep. Byron Donalds hints that he would answer call if picked as Trump's VP

Short of an unexpected event or situation, former President Donald Trump is undoubtedly the most likely 2024 GOP presidential nominee.

Given that's no longer a surprise, the next earth-shattering news from the Trump campaign will be who he selects to run with him on the Republican ticket.

Several high-profile names have already made presumably veep shortlists, but many believe -- and many are pushing for -- Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds will be the former president's pick.

During a recent appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures," Donalds was asked, like many other top prospects, whether or not he would accept the call to run as Trump's vice president.

And also like many others, Donalds didn't answer the question directly.

"With respect to being potentially on the ticket, that’s really up to the president," he said, before subtly hinting that he would likely answer the call.

"I have no control over that,” Donalds said. “The only thing I will say is, I just want to do whatever I can to get our country back on track. That’s what I have always been committed to."

The Hill noted:

Donalds’s comments come nearly a week after he dropped out of the GOP Speaker’s race during multiple rounds of voting last week. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) clinched the nomination, but he dropped out hours later when it became apparent he could not shore up the 217 votes needed to take the gavel.

In April, Donalds endorsed Trump's official bid for a second term in the White House, saying that he would be the best bet at getting America "back on track."

Donalds is massively popular among Trump's large base of MAGA supporters, with many of them already pushing Donalds as a top vice president pick for the former president.

Only time will tell who Trump ultimately selects. Whoever it is, hopefully they're ready.
