Relative reveals troubling past of Charlie Kirk shooter’s troubled roommate

In a shocking tragedy at Utah Valley University, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot by a young man whose personal life and associations are now under intense scrutiny.

The incident unfolded on September 10, 2025, when 22-year-old Tyler Robinson allegedly gunned down Kirk during a campus event in Orem, Utah, leading to a sprawling manhunt, a confession tied to ideological motives, and revelations about Robinson's living situation with a controversial roommate.

Fox News reported that surveillance footage captured Robinson arriving on campus just before noon on that fateful day, dressed in dark attire and concealing a rifle while moving with an odd stride.

By 12:15 p.m., cameras showed Robinson scaling a railing to a rooftop overlooking the university plaza, assuming a sniper-like position.

Minutes later, as Kirk addressed a question about mass shootings, Robinson fired a single shot from a bolt-action rifle, striking Kirk in the neck and endangering nearby attendees, including children.

Kirk was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but tragically succumbed to his injuries, leaving a void in conservative circles.

Manhunt and Robinson's Surrender Unfold

After the shooting, Robinson fled across the rooftop with his weapon, eventually escaping toward the northeast edge of campus as law enforcement initiated a 33-hour manhunt.

The murder weapon, wrapped in a towel and bearing inscribed bullets with what Robinson called "meme-like" markings, was later discovered in a wooded area near the university.

Robinson messaged his roommate, Lance Twiggs, admitting to the act and urging the deletion of their texts, citing his belief that Kirk spread harmful rhetoric—a motive that raises questions about the toxic echo chambers of today’s ideological battles.

Lance Twiggs, Robinson’s 22-year-old roommate in southwestern Utah, emerges as a figure of interest, though not charged in connection with the crime.

A relative of Twiggs shared that family tensions led to Twiggs being forced out of his parents’ home at 18, citing struggles with substance abuse and other personal challenges. "[His father] thought he wasn’t being respectful and was problematic, so they kicked him out," the relative told Fox News Digital.

Let’s unpack that quote—while family discord is hardly uncommon, it’s telling that Twiggs’ issues were severe enough to warrant such a drastic step, hinting at deeper instability that might have created a volatile environment for someone like Robinson.

Twiggs' Life After Family Fallout

After leaving home, Twiggs lived with grandparents until graduating high school, then moved into a townhome in St. George, Utah, sharing space with college roommates while managing to hold a job and pay rent.

Eventually, the other roommates left, and Robinson moved in, forming not just a living arrangement but a romantic relationship with Twiggs, according to the relative—a dynamic that adds layers to this already disturbing case.

While Twiggs’ journey, including a gender transition, reflects personal struggles many face in a society quick to judge, conservatives might argue that such unstable personal circumstances can amplify dangerous ideologies when paired with someone harboring violent intent like Robinson.

It’s not about blame but about understanding how broken systems—be they family or cultural—can fail to catch warning signs before tragedy strikes.
