President Biden visits Brownsville, Texas, for rare border visit in bid to ease American outrage

President Joe Biden and his administration are suddenly acknowledging the immigration crisis at the southern U.S. border -- even prompting the 81-year-old president to visit there.

As the immigration crisis spirals out of control and an election later this year, many believe Biden made his visit in an attempt to show that he's aware of it.

The problem, as many noted, is that Biden isn't even making an honest attempt to see what's really happening, as he chose to visit Brownsville, Texas, where illegal border crossings are scant.

In stark contrast, former President Donald Trump visited Eagle Pass, Texas, on the same day, where some of the highest rates of illegal border crossings take place on a daily basis.

Dueling visits

Notably, Trump's visit to Eagle Pass was announced before Biden's announcement regarding his trip to Brownsville.

Politico noted:

The competing appearances set the opening scene for the general election, as both candidates ramp up their attacks and set their sights on the November rematch.

It's no secret that the border issue is a top election issue for the 2024 general election. The numbers favor Trump, as border crossings have skyrocketed since he left office, in the wake of the Biden administration quashing most of the border policies he had in place.

Many observed that it seems that Biden's visit is one of desperation. His polling numbers are in the tank, all around, and his numbers specifically related to his handling of the illegal immigration crisis also happen to be dismally low.

Upon arriving in Brownsville, Biden was seen quickly leaving the scene in the motorcade with Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Social media reacts

Biden's visit to the low-trafficked Brownsville area was widely mocked across social media, with many pointing out that he not only spent very little time there, but that he probably wasn't welcome.

"How long did they even spend there? They know they are not welcome there so they split fast," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Poor Biden doesn’t even know where he is or what’s going on."

Clearly, Biden -- or should we say the White House -- wanted Biden at a section of the U.S. border where there's not a lot of action, at least to grab a few video and photo ops in an attempt to downplay the crisis and blame Republicans. Not a big surprise, really.
