Fans of the Netflix special "The Haunting of Hill House" were shocked to learn of the arrest of one of the show's stars this week.
According to Fox News, Paxton Singleton, a star of the popular show, was arrested and charged with loitering and possessing alcohol as a minor, authorities confirmed to the outlet.
Singleton was reportedly booked on Friday by the Fayetteville Police Department, reports confirm. The arrest took place in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
After shelling out a $430 bond, Singleton was released in the early morning hours of Saturday.
Fox News noted:
Singleton is expected to appear in court on Jan. 29 on the "Rule 8.1 Hearing," an Arkansas state law designed for the defendant to hear charges in their first appearance before a judicial officer.
Aside from "The Haunting of Hill House," Singleton is known for other roles in "The Rookie," "Chicago Med," and "Supernatural."
Social media users reacted to the news of Singleton's arrest, with many blaming the toll Hollywood life takes on young actors.
Others said that the police should have cut him a break and focus more on serious crimes than a 19-year-old having a few drinks.
"Crazy that he’s allowed to join the army and literally kill people, or vote for who he wants representing him in government, or buy certain types of guns, but he can’t have a drink of alcohol," one X user wrote.
Other's echoed the same sentiment, arguing that a 19-year-old should be able to drink alcohol without facing serious repercussions.
"If you can join the army and fight for your country. If you can sign up an vote! You CAN HAVE A BEER! Be better!" another X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, "Looting Violent crime Follow home burglaries But the police have time for this."
Others had a comedic take on Singleton's arrest, with one social media user writing, "Wow, sounds like Paxton Singleton took the 'haunting' part of his role a bit too seriously. Guess he figured if you can't beat the spirits in the house, might as well join them."
Hopefully it was simply a one-off incident and the young actor learns that even though it's controversial, it's still against the law to consume alcohol as a 19-year-old.
