Security planning intensifies in Palm Beach as officials collaborate with the U.S. Secret Service to address safety and traffic concerns related to Donald Trump's upcoming presidency.
The Palm Beach Daily News reported that town officials are working closely with various agencies to improve security, manage traffic congestion, and enhance emergency services as they prepare for Trump's return to the presidency.
Police Chief Nicholas Caristo detailed the preparations during the Safeguard Palm Beach’s Fall Palm Beach Breakfast Safety Forum.
The meeting highlighted coordination efforts with the U.S. Secret Service and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office to plan security measures involving Mar-a-Lago, Trump's Palm Beach residence.
Significant attention is being given to road closures that have impacted the area since July 20, following a security measure response to an attempted assassination on Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. These include restricted access along Ocean Boulevard, from the Southern Boulevard traffic circle up to South County Road.
The road closures have substantially influenced traffic patterns, compounded by additional disruptions from other projects.
Unsanctioned bridge openings for the Bonefish Cove Restoration Project and ongoing construction in downtown West Palm Beach have further exacerbated congestion.
In the face of these challenges, the local police have successfully reduced response times, particularly on State Road A1A, enhancing operational efficiencies in the southern parts of the town. Similarly, Palm Beach Fire Rescue has maintained a swift average response time of just four minutes, ensuring prompt emergency support.
Caristo drew on past experiences, noting, “When President-elect Trump was president before, we made it through the four years.”
He added, “We've just got to come up with a game plan, and we will... but all I ask is to be patient.”
Beyond addressing traffic and safety, emergency services in Palm Beach have integrated advanced technologies, such as neuroprotective CPR devices and mobile ultrasound systems. These tools are part of a broader effort to enhance emergency response outcomes.
Further support has come through the deployment of 293 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) across the island. Plans are underway to add 207 more, with funding sourced from Safeguard Palm Beach and the Palm Beach Police & Fire Foundation.
Additional innovations include the adoption of the RapidSOS dispatch system, which proved effective in a recent case. Sean Baker recounted a situation where the system enabled responders to locate and assist a stroke victim who was unable to communicate but had provided information via their phone.
The police chief also highlighted emerging community threats from scammers employing deceptive tactics, such as fake QR code stickers and scam delivery messages, which pose risks to residents. Caristo cautioned that scanning a tampered QR code could lead to unauthorized access to personal phone data.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant, as scammers could pose as legitimate entities like the United States Postal Service with fraudulent links.
Caristo encouraged the community to report any suspicions to law enforcement, emphasizing, “We respond to everything, and if somebody’s unsure about being scammed or unsure of something that’s happening in the neighborhood, we welcome those calls.”
Overall, officials in Palm Beach are making concerted efforts to ensure the well-being and security of residents amid the anticipations surrounding Trump's presidency and related challenges.

Caristo expressed confidence in the community’s ability to manage the transitions effectively. “We’ve loaded up coverage down here to the point where our response times throughout the whole highway and down here in the south have actually gone down,” he said.
