An 18-year-old state parks worker and high school baseball star tragically lost his life while combating a forest fire in Sterling Forest, New York.
The New York Post reported that Dariel Vasquez died when a tree fell during efforts to extinguish a massive wildfire that spread across 2,000 acres.
Vasquez, who was employed by the New York State Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation Department, met his untimely demise on Saturday. The incident occurred near the New Jersey border, during a time of critical fire danger across the region.
