The congressional race in Nevada took an interesting turn this week after a leading Republican candidate was torched by her ex-mother-in-law in a scathing op-ed.
According to Daily Mail, Nevada GOP candidate Elizabeth Helgelien was torn to shreds and labeled "the worst congressional candidate ever" in the Nevada Globe. The piece was penned by Christine Halseth, her former mother-in-law and the mother of Daniel Halseth, who was stabbed to death by his then-16-year-old daughter and her boyfriend.
Helgelien is widely regarded as a popular MAGA Republican candidate and has gained prominent support.
In the op-ed, Halseth slammed Helgelien for "raising a murderer."
In 2021, Daniel Halseth was fatally stabbed over 70 times by his own daughter, Sierra, and her 18-year-old boyfriend Aaron Guerrero.
Sierra, who is Helgelien's daughter, is serving a life sentence for the brutal murder along with Guerrero. That didn't deter Helgelien from launching a bid to capture the state's 3rd District congressional seat.
However, according to the Daily Mail, she's starting off with a PR nightmare, as Halseth held nothing back in her brutal op-ed explaining why she believes her former daughter-in-law is not a good candidate.
But her prospects may have taken a hit after Halseth wrote a scathing op-ed in the Nevada Globe, claiming Helgelien 'raised a murderer, was forced out of office after a series of sex scandals, was caught in a series of lies, posed for lewd photographs, and has already proven to be unelectable.'
Notably, Helgelien was a Nevada state senator while she was married to David Halseth. The murder dominated headlines at the time.
In Christine Halseth’s piece in the Globe, she described Daniel as “a loving father, an incredible musician, a talented photographer, and an avid outdoorsman.”

The couple experienced more than their fair share of negative press, as domestic violence allegations continuously rocked their 11-year marriage, which ended contentiously, according to reports.
Sierra and her boyfriend not only stabbed Daniel Halseth over 70 times, they also burned his body by setting fire to a sleeping bag that his body was stuffed into.
They had reportedly bought several different types of power saws and attempted to dismember him before burning his body, according to police reports.

Prosecutors believe Sierra and Aaron carried out the gruesome murder after Daniel forbade them from seeing each other. They recorded a warped video where they joked about committing murder - three days after they killed Daniel.
Helgelien will clearly be subjected to many more questions regarding her marriage and the murder of Daniel, especially after the op-ed. It'll be interesting to see if she manages to stay in the race amid the massive dose of negative publicity.
